There are pet friendly motels all over this county; both by the beach and in the wine country. Pet friendly lodging in Santa Barbara County is available in every price range, too.

Finding your perfect dog friendly hotel is just a matter of deciding where you want to stay and how much you want to spend.

Pet policies and fees vary from place to place, so ask about them when you book your room. Be sure your pet’s wearing an ID tag and bring proof of vaccination with you.

All dog friendly motels require that your pet is never left alone. Most pet friendly accommodations accept only small dogs or cats under a specific weight. If you’re traveling with a large dog or an exotic pet, it may be more expensive to find a room.

Pet Friendly Activities

No doubt you’ll be looking for pet friendly restaurants in Santa Barbara County. Almost all restaurants with outdoor seating will allow well-behaved pets on a leash. Just ask.

The Big Dog Festival and Canine Parade was a fund-raising event for Big Dog Foundation. All proceeds from the nation’s largest dog parade went toward bettering the lives of dogs, children and dogs that help people.

The event was cancelled in 2009 due to the declining economy. It resumed in June 2010, but I’ve been informed that The Walking Company will not be sponsoring a Big Dog Festival in 2011.

Rules & Regulations

Officially, Santa Barbara County requires that all pets be on a 6-foot leash, unless in a designated off-leash dog area. Here are a few more off-leash open space parks for you to enjoy together.

Un-Officially, there are MANY places that are tolerant of well-behaved dogs off leash. The operative phrase here being “well-behaved”. As long as your dog responds well to voice command and “plays nice”, and if you see other dogs off leash in the area, feel free to let your dog off leash.
